Riding a bike is a hobby that people have been indulging since the invention of the bipedal mode of transportation. As it runs on fossil fuel,it creates a lot of pollution,so in order to keep a cleaner environment a better and fuel efficient machine please follow the tips.

10 Tips For Fuel Efficiency

1. Minimize your vehicle use:

Vehicles are least fuel efficient and most polluting at the start of trips and on short trips. One reason for this is that catalytic converters (which reduce air pollution emissions) do not operate properly until they have warmed up. Trips of less than five kilometers generally do not allow the engine to reach its peak operating temperature. Plan to do a number of errands in one trip rather than several trips and save both time and fuel. Try to avoid short vehicle trips by walking or cycling. This will save over a quarter of a kilogram of greenhouse gas emissions per kilometer of vehicle driving it replaces, as well as give you healthy exercise.

2. Drive in the right gear:

Driving in a gear lower than you need wastes fuel, and letting the engine labor in top gear on hills and corners is also wasteful. change up gears as soon as the bike is comfortable with the higher gear but without accelerating harder than necessary.

3. Drive smoothly :

Stop/start driving is much less efficient and more polluting than driving at a constant speed. Avoid travelling during peak-hours and on congested roads whenever possible.

4. Take it easy on the accelerator -

more revs equals more petrol use. Drive at a good distance from the car in front so you can anticipate and travel with the flow of traffic. This avoids unnecessary acceleration and frequent repetitive braking that ends up wasting fuel. It's also far safer.

5. Minimize fuel wasted in idling:

If it is safe to do so, turn off your engine when stationary for more than a minute or two. Modern bikes use virtually no extra fuel when they’re re-started so you won’t waste lots of fuel switching the bike back on.

6.Slow down:

Avoid excessive speeds when possible. Driving at 85mph uses approximately 25% more fuel than 70mph.

7.Check tire pressure frequently:

At least once a month and before long journeys. Under-inflated tires are not only dangerous and but also increase your fuel consumption. While checking tire pressure, it is also advisable to check the depth of the tire tread to ensure they are legally compliant. 8.Travel light:The more weight a vehicle carries, the more fuel it uses..Don't use your bike as a car carrying more than two persons. Leave heavy items in the duty for cars.

9. Keep your vehicle in good condition:

Keep your vehicle well tuned and regularly maintained. Get your bike serviced at the intervals specified in the manufacturer's.

10. Use Public Transport:

Ride the bus, bicycle or walk instead of driving alone. Sharing a ride to work with a friend or two effectively doubles your petrol cost. These are some of the many ways one can save on both pocket and the environment on the oil cost and fossil fuel emissions. You can curtail up to 20% cost of petrol alone by keeping a clean spark plug and oil filter, and on the other hand, reading the owners manual provides the best way to achieve the needed mileage on any bike.
