The TVS Flame is a 125cc multipurpose entry level commuter bike that was launched back in 2008 in India by TVS. Despite of being a good motorcycle it did not received much appreciation from the public. So in 2009, TVS launched a refreshed and refreshed version of TVS Flame 125 as TVS Flame SR 125. Design:
By just one glance of the bike one can say undoubtedly that the Flame looks different than other bikes. The Delta wing design concept is totally unique in its class. Most of the parts of the bike are triangular shaped, which makes the bike standout of the crowed and in the same time aerodynamic. The arrow shaped headlight has small bulb on top as perking lights. The front body color painted cowl has a tinted visor and some graphic decals too. The handlebar is commuter type raised bar that creates an upright seating position.
The V shaped fuel tank has a unique tank scoops with integrated turn signals in it. Yes the turn signal lights are on the fuel tank. That was a very cool at that time. There is a body colored engine guard cowl, the first of its class. The engine has a gun metal finishing to it. The 6-spoke alloy wheels are black finished. The chain guard is also there to give it a commuter character. The exhaust muffler is of Delta shaped with a chrome finished cap and a black finished heat guard. The seat is long, wide and well cushioned with a big unique shaped and wide black pillion grab rail. The tail light is also something new. All in all the whole design is something new and no one has seen before. The color options are Elite Blue, Scarlet Red and Mica Black.
Instrument console:
The 2009 TVS Fame SR 125 has semi-digital instrument console. The speedometer is an analogue unit while the odometer, tripmeter, fuel gauge and clock are in the digital unit shown in a small monochrome LCD display just by the side of the speedometer. The instrument console lacks a Tachometer.
Switch gears:
The switch gears on the SR125 are also standard with a high beam flasher, push button starter, and a engine kill switch.

Engine:
TVS has fitted the Flame SR 125 with a 4-stroke, 3 valve, 124.8cc, CCVTi , single cylinder, air cooled engine. This engine comes with two separate intake port of different radius, one bigger and one smaller. During low rpm the bigger valve remains closed but when needed the bigger valve opens up to provide with more power. The bigger port provides more air fuel mixture which can result in more power and smaller provide less air fuel mixture which results in more mileage. It can produce a peak power of 10.5bhp at 7500rpm and a maximum 10Nm of torque at 6000rpm. This engine has been mated to a 4 speed gearbox with all gears are in forward patterns. For fuel efficiency of Flame SR 125,
TVS fitted a transmission with taller ratio; it resulted into the slower performance of the bike. Therefore, you’ll be in a need of a right gear for the effective usage of its power. It takes approximately more than 6 seconds to reach 60kmph from a standstill and a speed mark of 100kmph can be crossed by this engine quite effectively thanks to taller gear ratio. Very often the engine runs out of power. At that point of time the need of the fifth gear could be felt strongly. Also due to the low and the mid-range, Flame SR is more suitable for riding in city roads than highways. The engine is refined than before and the gear transitions are much smoother now than before, thanks to TVS that they have pondered over the complaints and corrected them. The engine is almost vibe as well as noise free and returns a decent mileage of approx. 65kmpl on city roads and approx. 75kmpl on the highways. The bike has a 7.5L fuel tank with 1.5L reserved capacity.

Suspension and comfort:
The Flame SR 125 is fitted Telescopic Oil Damped forks in the front and 5-step adjustable spring loaded hydraulic suspension. TVS used rectangular swing arms in this bike. The soft cushioned seats, foot pegs at front and upward placed handlebar allows a very comfortable upright riding position that does not causes any back pain while riding the bike.
Wheels:
The 2009 TVS Flame SR 125 has 17 inch wheel in both front and rear. The Tires are 90/90-17” in the front and 100/90-17” in the rear. None of them are tubeless.
Brakes:
The Flame SR 125 is equipped with 240mm front disk break and 130 mm rear drum brake. Both of these should do a fine job stopping the bike.
Dimensions:
The SR 125 has a wheel base of 1320mm, length 2030mm, height 1070mm and width 760mm. The ground clearance is 165mm which is decent for any road conditions. The kerb weight is 123KG. In dimensions, the bike is average with a longer wheelbase.

Handling:
The SR 125 is a bike with longer wheelbase and 100/90 rear tires makes it stable in most conditions. The weight is average, so maneuvering this bike should not be problem. Overall the handling of this bike should not be disappointing at all but while riding in the city the taller gear ratio should be in mind. One has to be in right gear to use the power of the bike.
Conclusion:
TVS has always been a trust worthy bike manufacturer across the Indian sub-continent. With the Flame series they took a chance of giving us a perfect bike in its segment. But for some reason the Flame was not that successful in the market. So, TVS decided to stop the manufacturing the Flame series in 2012 and introduced the Phoenix 125.
