Review of Honda CB 150 or CB Trigger:
Overview:
The Honda CB Trigger is a 150 CC sports commuter bike from the Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India PVT. LTD. (HMSI). The Unicorn Dazzler was not able to get as much market share as HMSI expected.
So HMSI decided to update the Unicorn Dazzler, gave it a new name the CB Trigger, and launched it. So what is it with Honda CB Trigger? Will it be the one that HMSI wanted it to be? Let’s find out.
Engine:
The new CB Trigger has old Unicorn Dazzler’s 150 cc engine. The engine is actually 149.1 CC, 4-stroke, single-cylinder, overhead cam, air-cooled, 2 valves, single spark engine. The cylinder has a 57.3 mm bore and 57.8 mm stroke resulting that 149.1 CC of piston displacement.
The compression ratio used is 9.5: 1 which ensures the longevity of the piston hence the engine considering the available gasoline quality in Bangladesh.
The engine is feed through a Carburetor Honda did not revile any specific model that means it might be developed new or adopted from the Dazzler and tuned for better performance. The engine is equipped with a Viscous paper filter element as an air filter for its healthy breathing.
The engine’s lubrication system is also unknown. And all these results in 14 BHP of peak power at 8500 RPM and 12.5 Nm of maximum torque at 6500 RPM.
The engine is feed from a 12-liter fuel tank. The Wet weight is 135 Kg hence the bike has a power to weight ratio of 4.7 HP per 100 KG. The CB Trigger has an Electric starter as well as a basic kick starter.
Transmission:
The Honda CB Trigger has mated with 5-speed constant mesh transmission with 1 down and 4 up gear configuration, so no surprise there. The transmission has a wet multi-plate clutch. The gear ratios are also unknown.
Design:
The CB Trigger somehow looks familiar when looked at from a different angle. As the bike is an upgraded version of the old dazzler so it looks like the Dazzler from the side view with some new bodywork of course.
It might sound bad. But trust me it looks a whole lot nice and refreshed than the Dazzler. In the front the bike has a reshaped headlamp from the Dazzler which looks very aggressive with two air scoops on the visor and the pilot lamps on both upper corner of the headlamp makes it more aggressive.
The CB Trigger has a masculine tank that is chiseled to perfection. The big Contoured Tank along with unique floating side cowls gives it a dominant feel.
The 3D Honda emblem gives the appearance of a jewel that captivates the onlookers. The side panels are masculine very carefully designed with 2 tone plastics. The rear under-seat panels are masculine and body-colored.
The combined dual disk brakes along with alloy wheels and rear mono-shock give the bike a very modern look. Digital instrument panels also contribute to that modern look.
The seat is unibody hence spacious as well as well-cushioned. The in the rear the modern LED tail lamp is exactly what a rider looks at in the bike, two horizontal parallel lines of LEDs and are visible in low visibility conditions.
The exhaust muffler is huge and has a very unique and rectangular shape to it. The whole underbody is painted black except for the front mudguard. And the red Honda branding on the black-finished engine looks very cool. The bike comes in only black and red variants in Bangladesh.
Instrument console:
The Honda CB Trigger has a fully digital instrument console that looks premium. The orange-colored LCD displays a bar-style tachometer, speedometer, odometer, two trip meters, a fuel gauge, and a clock. No gear indicator is given. All the indicators are positioned just above the digital console.
Switch Gears:
In terms of switch gears, some say that the Trigger is a disappointment like all other Honda bikes in this economy segment. It lacks an engine kill switch. It is a useful feature to have. Other than that rest of the switches are standard with a high beam flasher and feels of premium quality too.
Electricals:
The Honda CB Trigger 150 uses a 12 V, 4Ah maintenance-free battery and an AC generator. The bike uses a DC-Digital Ignition System. The Bike has a bright 35/35 W Multi reflector clear lens AC head lamp, 5/21 W LED tail /Brakes light, and each 10 W clear lens turn signal light.
Chassis & Dimensions:
Honda used an advance designed Diamond type frame for the foundation of the CB Trigger, which should be enough for a 150 CC bike. The Honda CB Trigger has an overall length of 2045 mm, a width of 757 mm, a height of 1060 mm, a ground clearance of 175 mm, a seat height of 780 mm, and a wheelbase of 1325 mm. The wet weight (with tool kit & 90% of fuel) of the bike is 135 Kg. This means that the bike has an average footprint in terms of dimensions in its competition.
Suspension:
The Honda CB Trigger is equipped with Telescopic forks at the front and 5 steps adjustable spring-loaded mono-shock at the rear which is attached with a rectangular swing arm. This suspension setup is more than standard in its segment and works better for soaking up all the bumps of all kinds of roads with even a pillion in the back.
Wheels, Brakes & Tires:
The Honda CB Trigger uses their conventional 5-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels and 240 mm Disc with a Nissin caliper at the front and a 220 mm Disc with a Nissin caliper is standard in the CBS version. The tire sizes are 80/ 100-17” at the front and 110/80-17” at the rear. Both of these tires are tubeless and offer great grip.
Performance:
The CB Trigger should reach the 60 Km/H marks in around 6 sec and mileage claim of 45-55 Km/L on average which is fair.
Comfort and Handling:
Now in comfort the bike shines but in terms of handling CB Triggers does just fine in the city while suffers in the highway considering its competitors. The bike is relatively light in weight and those 110 rear tire gives the bike for much maneuverability in the traffic but the shorter wheelbase makes the bike unstable in the high speed.
The seat height is higher and that might be a bad thing for shorter new riders. The seating position is commuter type upright so no back pain. The seat is well cushioned and spacious for both rider and pillion. The ground clearance is higher so no tension there. The bike is perfect for everyday city commuting while raising questions about highway riding.
Conclusion:
The CB Trigger is an attempt to make things right. For the most part, they did get it right but someplace it still needs to be upgraded.
