The motorsports and action sports protective gears brand Alpinestars was founded in 1963 by Sante Mazzarolo (1929-2020) in a small Northern Italian town of Asolo. Sante Mazzarolo started his career as a leather craftsman who used to make leather boots. In 1963, he formed the brand Alpinestars making hiking boots and ski boots. The brand Alpinestars is named after the flower Stella Alpina (Edelweiss), which actually grows in the high of the mountains where the company was founded.
At the time of the formation of Alpinestars, the Motocross motorcycling culture was established and getting popular in Europe. Being aware of the potentiality in such sports Sante realized his opportunity to put his expertise to make a compatible design of protective boots for the Motocross riders. Thus Sante Mazzarolo quickly shifted to make boots for enduro racers later that became a protective standard and thereafter shortly he concentrated to make boots for all the forms of motor racing.
