Peugeot is around 127 years old two-wheeler brand that was founded in 1898 in France by Armand Peugeot (18 February 1849 – 4 February 1915), who was a French industrialist. The brand Peugeot debut, building its first motorcycle hiring an engine from De Dion-Bouton, which was a French automobile and railcar manufacturer. Unfortunately, it remained an exhibition model and never was put into commercial production.

Later in the twentieth century, Peugeot started to manufacture quadricycles in 1900, but the project failed to succeed and the project shut down by 1903. Meanwhile, in 1901, Peugeot started to produce their own motorcycles using a Swiss-made Zürcher & Lüthi engine, and the success continued onward.

Later days, Peugeot absorbed another French bicycle and motorcycle manufacturer company Automoto, which was also a pioneer in the field of motorcycles and scooters. Peugeot became a leading French motorcycle manufacturer until the 1950s, producing many of their two-wheelers. By the time, Peugeot had built technical co-operation with the Japanese motorcycle brand Honda in 1981 and purchased their two-stroke engines, variator transmission and electrical components to be installed in the Peugeot scooter.

In 21-chentury era Peugeot came in joint ventures with various manufacturing companies like Chinese manufacturer Jinan Qingqi in 2006, Taiwanese manufacturer Sanyang Industry (SYM), etc. Consequently, it developed its product line with technology sharing. Also, Peugeot shares and joint ventures have been acquired by multiple companies.
