Last updated on 17-Sep-2024 , By Badhon Roy

When we think of dirt bikes, the image of the specially designed adventure bikes made for world-famous Dakar Rally or other rallycross championships comes to our mind. These types of bikes are not like regular ones. Dirt segment has different target riders and the bikes are famous for their power output and ability to handle any extreme conditions.

While there are many options for high-CC dirt bikes in first-world countries, dirt bikes under 160 CC and those available in Bangladesh are quite rare. Considering this, the Yamaha WR155 is one of the best options as from its specifications. Though the bike is not officially available in Bangladesh, it has a significant interest among local dirt and adventure bike enthusiasts. Many bikers hoping it will be officially launched in the country soon.

In this article, we will take a closer look at the Yamaha WR155.

Yamaha WR 155 – Design

The Yamaha WR 155 is designed with a typical off-roader shape. Its standout features include a lightweight frame paired with heavy-duty suspension and a powerful torque engine, allowing the rider to navigate any terrain with ease.

With a simple look, strong build quality, off-road tires, spoked alloy rims, high ground clearance, and upright exhaust placement. Though it doesn’t has many modern features, it offers a high level of practicality in all aspects.

Yamaha WR 155 – Engine Specifications

The Yamaha WR 155 comes equipped with the same engine found in popular Yamaha models like the R15 V3, MT-15, XSR, and Aerox. It features a 155.1 CC single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, 4-stroke SOHC engine with electronic fuel injection (EFI) and Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology.

This engine produces 16.4 BHP of power at 10,000 RPM and 14.31 NM of torque at 6,500 RPM. Despite sharing the same engine, the bike's light frame and slight technical differences result in much more torque than a standard bike, making it ideal for tackling tough terrains.

Yamaha WR 155 – Features

Some of the key features of the Yamaha WR 155 include:

Seat Height, Weight, and Ground Clearance: It has a seat height of 888 mm, a ground clearance of 245 mm, and a curb weight of only 134 kg. This makes it quite lightweight, though the higher seat and ground clearance might be challenging for shorter riders.

Ignition System: The bike features a self-start ignition system.

Digital Instrument Cluster: The compact, square-shaped digital LCD cluster displays information such as fuel level, multiple trip meters, speedometer, tachometer, gear indicator, service reminder, and clock.

Low-Down Flat Seat: The flat seat design makes it easier for the rider to adjust their position during off-roading, and the seat is also comfortable.

Extended Upper-Positioned Mudguard: Given that dirt bikes are designed for challenging environments, splashes of water or mud are inevitable. The bike is equipped with an extended upper-positioned mudguard to help with this.

Upswept Exhaust Placement: The exhaust is placed along the chassis frame, which provides an added advantage for off-roading, whether in muddy or waterlogged areas.

Tubeless Tires: The bike features a front tire size of 80/90-21 and a rear tire size of 110/80-18. High-quality IRC Trais GP 22 off-road tires are used, which provide greater confidence in navigating various types of roads.

Brakes: For braking, the bike is equipped with a 240 mm front petal disc and a 220 mm rear petal disc brake.

Suspension System: The front suspension features KYB brand telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers, and the rear features a multi-adjustable preload monoshock absorber, ensuring a comfortable and smooth ride, especially during off-road conditions.

Mileage: According to Yamaha Indonesia, the bike has a fuel tank capacity of 8.1 liters and offers a mileage of 35-40 km per liter. Though the fuel tank size and mileage are a bit low for a 155 CC bike, the lightweight frame and high torque output, along with its off-roading capabilities, justify the higher fuel consumption. The actual mileage may vary depending on road conditions, fuel quality, and riding style.

Yamaha WR 155 – Pros and Cons

Like all bikes, the WR 155 has both advantages and disadvantages. On the positive side, its off-roading capabilities, easy maintenance due to the R15 series engine, and lightweight body make it stand out. However, the bike is not suitable for regular use. Its high seat and ground clearance can make it challenging for shorter riders to balance and ride comfortably.

The small fuel tank size also needs frequent refueling, and riders may need to carry extra fuel. While it is an off-roading bike, using tubeless tires could have reduced the risks associated with rough terrains. Additionally, since the bike is not officially available in Bangladesh, the authenticity of parts and maintenance services, along with reasonable pricing, remains a concern.

So, this was a detailed overview of the Yamaha WR 155. For a long time, Bangladeshi off-road enthusiasts have been eager to have such a powerful dirt bike. The arrival of such bikes in the country would not only increase participation in recently organized racing championships but also provide a good option for bikers in hilly and remote areas for regular use. It is hoped that Yamaha Bangladesh under ACI Motors Limited will soon launch the bike at a reasonable price, considering the desires and requests of general bikers.
