Shape & Design:

The new FI version of FZ series has lots of cosmetic changes on the body covers, mufflers and panels. I think overall external getup has changed except the eye catching wider rear tire. The old version was quite bold figured where the new version is a bit dieted.  You will find the Headlamp, Windshield, Fuel Tank, Engine Cowling, Side Panel, Back Panel Muffler, Rear Mudguard with impressive new look & design. Most of the parts are re-designed & reshaped with enhanced new color scheme.

More over the new shaped tail lamp, double horn grab rail, rear tire fender with chain cover, newly designed exhaust muffler and split seat also enhanced the uniqueness of the design. So you will get a complete new look & design with the new FI version of FZ series. And you will not find any similarity of the exteriors with the old carbureted version of FZ.

Control Panel & Other:

There are also so many changes & enhancements with the control panel & signals. You will find the newly designed digital odo meter, clear lens turning indicators, reshaped head lamp, new cutting edge sharp tail lamp and double cable acceleration control to enhance the controlling feature. But unfortunately there is no time indicator or top speed recorder available with the odo. You will only get the old features of previous version with newly designed Odo in new version. The only addition is there is a green light illuminated ECO signal featured for economical riding style which is not featured clearly a bit.

The both version of the breed structured on same diamond frame with (near about) same dimension. Where the new version sliced & reshaped for more aerodynamic body. You will find all the mufflers and cowlings are also sliced to slim, slender & for cutting edge looks. But you will find the handle bar, foot pages, control levers, shock absorbers, rim & tires, engine position & shape almost same. And mechanically the gear ratio, compression ratio, valve & valve operation also same.

The biggest difference & upgrades for the new version is slicing out the old conventional carburetor and enhanced the feeding system of fuel with ECU (Electronic Control Unit) controlled fuel injector which is FI. This is the core enhancement of the new version which ensures the maximum fuel utilization, maximum power delivery and maximum fuel efficiency. Yamaha tagged the FI version with the “Blue Core” feature which ensures maximum performance with maximum economy.

The new FZ series also reduced its weight for the entire new FZ product than the previous version of FZ. The reduced weight helps it to gain more speed & acceleration in consideration of power to weight ratio. As it can go faster for the reduced weight and also newly sleek and sliced aerodynamics reduces friction with air and ensures superb stability and smooth movement while on highway or at high speed ride. In comparison you will find the old version little bulky and heavier than the new one.

You know the FZ series is quite disrepute for being quite lazy and fuel hunger bread comparing with the other bikes in the market within the 150cc segment. Unfortunately the new version also may not able to blow off the charge of laziness as its power & torque have sacrificed brutally maybe for the fuel efficiency.

Yamaha have restructured the engine capacity from 153cc to 149cc where the bore is same 57.9mm but stroke reduced from 58.0mm to 57.3mm which capable to deliver the reduced maximum power of 13.1 PS at 8000RPM where the previous model produced 14 PS at 7500RPM. Not only power but also the torque also reduced from 13.6NM to 12.8NM. So you can feel the issue of our frustration.

Assessment:

The new version of FZ series still is not available in our market, and still we do not know how it can perform on the track. Without a real time test ride any review or any prediction cannot be complete. So without proper test ride we really can’t make any assessment from our end. But after overall research and analysis of the data we find the both version of FZ series featured with deferent concentrations and specialties. You may not alter each other in some different situation.

We think the regular version of FZ is for power and low maintenance as it is carbureted and the new version is for fuel efficiency with smooth power delivery and sleek different look. Here we have a view that pure & quality fuel is not available everywhere in our country. So the FI version will be out of reach every corner of Bangladesh where the old Carbureted version can head in everywhere with a lower price tag. Moreover it’s a strategic technique to establish an experimented new product instead of a successful running product. Hence we are also in doubt the old version of FZ series will discontinued by Yamaha soon.

So riders, new version of FZ series is definitely a nice looking & featured upgrade no doubt. We think it will be the strong competitor of its previous version and absolutely with the only rival Suzuki Gixxer, where the main feature of FZ will be the newly sleek refreshed look & design. On the other hand Gixxer will stand for power & new breed from Suzuki. So definitely there is remaining a due of “Test Ride Review of FZS-FI by Team BikeBD” & “Suzuki Gixxer VS Yamaha FZS FI by Team BikeBD” for you. Hope we delivered all the info about "Yamaha FZs Vs Yamaha FZs V2 (Fi): Including Yamaha Fazer V.2" here.
